Ionamin contains Phentermine as cationic exchange resin complex. It also contains dibasic calcium phosphate, gelatine, iron oxides, magnesium stearate, lactose and titanium dioxide.
Ionamin is prescribed for persons with obesity to get rid of it. The class of the drug is known as 'anorexigenic' or 'anoretic'. This drug is short term supplement to diet and exercise to get rid of obesity. It is used to suppress appetite for persons with obesity.
Ionamin stimulates central nervous system which makes it to increase heart rate and blood pressure. As a result, a person's appetite gets reduced.
It should be taken at least an hour before meal in an empty stomach. As the drug may cause drowsiness do not take it late in a day. Do not crush or chew the pills before taking it. Take the medication as advised by the doctor.
Tell the doctor about allergy, blood pressure, earlier alcohol or drug abuse, diabetes, glaucoma and thyroid problems etc. Do not take Ionamin in case you are breast-feeding as the side effects may be transferred to the child.
Ionamin has short term side effects like - dry mouth, irritability, stomach upset, constipation, insomnia and high blood pressure etc. Apart from these any new side effects might appear. Consult your doctor in case of severe problems.
In condition that you miss a dose of Ionamin do not double up the next dose. In its place, leave out the missed dose and carry on with your scheduled dose only.
